children's medicines recall

hey everyone!

sorry i've been totally MIA last month- been busy busy! lots of travel, baby milestones and trying to spend time with Mimi McDonald since she moved to town to be close to babygirl... also been crazy weather- including the serious flooding going on now in Tennessee.

i wanna talk about how crazy the world seems the last few days... 14 inches of rain in Tn in less than 48 hours, huge oil spill in the gulf of mexico, bomb found in suv in time square, violent protesting in Athens over new govt cutbacks (the country is teetering on bankruptcy,) chemical explosion at an army base in alabama ... scary stuff going on!!

on that note, i get to my true purpose of making the time to blog today--
This past weekend Johnson & Johnson announced a voluntary recall of some of their children's products. their factory was found unsafe- with holes in the ceilings, duct tape holding together inportant tubing, and dust & grime on the machinery. What?! Crazy!!
the FDA says the medicines should not effect your children if they've taken any of the products, but better safe than sorry, right? you should throw all the recalled medicines out!!
check out this website for more information..

i really hope to be on here again sooon! i have so much to say! i just have to find the time and the mind to write it out and post it.

Photo shoot, 6 months

this weekend we did a photo shoot for Brooklyn- we couldn't let her past 6 month without taking some shots to remember her with years from now. we had a great experience and even before seeing the final shots- we've talked about doing it every six months with her, and this photographer!! here's a sneak peek... and check out more of Erik's style of photography at http://www.twinkletwinkleimages.com

she's pretty amazing, isn't she!

also this weekend, my mom-in-law, Gabi/Grammy/Mom moved to town!!! we're very excited she's here. and i have high hopes for her new adventure in the South!

as i type this blog, babygirl sleeps on my chest. we've been putting off sleep training while her first tooth broke through the gum. but now that's over, so we must begin.... i started today, with her afternoon nap. didn't happen. she decided she'd cry through the whole thing & basically skip the nap. tried for her late nap.. same thing. ugh! this is gonna be hard!! soooooo- that's why she's napping on me now, figured she's gotta sleep! we'll try again soon!

on that note, any Moms out there have tips on how to ween babies off of my soothing techniques and get them soothing themselves to sleep???? (she wakes up All through the night and excepts ME to get her back to sleep!)

shows i'm watching

When Mark is out of town, i always have a hard time putting myself to bed. so I spend the time catching up on shows that i've recorded- the ones he doesn't watch with me. too bad Glee hasn't started back up yet bc i'd be all over that!

but, here are some of the shows i have been watching....

Being Erica is on SOAPnet. i love love love this show! The show was created by Emmy-Award winning writer Jana Sinyor and stars Erin Karpluk as Erica Strange, Michael Riley as Dr. Tom and Tyron Leitso as Erica's bf Ethan. Being Erica is produced in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and BBC Worldwide.

So, here's the deal- Erica Strange is a 32 year old woman who lives with many regrets in her life. She is approached to start "therapy" with Dr. Tom, who takes her into her past to relive her regrets. She opens a door or trips over a stone and pops back in time.
its a great show! Erica is pretty but also slightly quirky, enough so to find her realistic and interesting. You can check out more on this show @ www.soapnet.com/beingerica

White Collar is on USA. The plot here goes like this... "A white collar criminal agrees to help the FBI catch other white collar criminals using his expertise as an art and securities thief, counterfeiter and racketeer." Matthew Boomer plays Neal Caffrey, the hottie white collar criminal turned FBI consultant. The show also features Willie Garson, who you'll remember from Sex and the City. Even Tiffani (Amber) Theissan  has a small role  on this series- as the wife of the FBI guy in charge of keeping track of Caffrey. Hey, it keeps me watching bc I’m always wondering when they’re going to take full use her in a show!

Project Runaway  is of course a favorite of mine, and has been for years. It’s on Lifetime for the second year in a row. Not much has changed on the show from changing networks- last year they were in LA, but now they are back in NYC. They have had competitions to create a kids look, a look out of a potato sack and this weeks was an outfit from shopping in a hardware store. Interesting- but really! I want them to think outside the box and everything, but hardware?? It’s a bit much I think!!

Okay… I’m totes willing to admit that the last time Mark was out of town- a recorded a couple episodes of Star Trek : The Next Generation. An oldie, but a goody!! Also favorite old time shows to record have been Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie, Sanford & Son and M*A*S*H. Together Mark and I watch Amazing Race, Idol, Survivor, Kitchen Nightmares, The Office and Community.

Tell me what shows you are into watching- with or without your hubby/wife/gf/bf

une petite fille

une petite fille = baby girl in French. how do i know this you may ask.... well.... i was looking up the english translation of "Bijoux L'apperitif" this morning and i found a link that answered french translation questions and one was how to say baby girl. i did not, however, truly find the definition for what i was looking for. i sort of figured it out on my own.. it means, roughly- jeweled drink. that makes sense, because it's written on a watering can i bought at the thrift store last week.

back to babygirl, une petite fille...

this little one is such a good baby! seriously good. very chill 93% of the time. but its that 7% that i'm concerned with. it doesn't sound like much time, does it? well, the problem is that the 7% happens to take place through the whole night!!! this little baby doesn't like to sleep. okay, correction- she doesn't like to sleep ALONE!!!

baby girl has been waking me up every hour or 2 hours every night, since before Valentines Day weekend! UGH!!!! i can't take much more of this. thank goodness we have her 6 month checkup tomorrow with Dr. Patton. i'm realllllly hoping he can ease my mind and give me some helpful tips on how to get her to sleep through the night. i seriously need some sleep. i joked with mark that i'm going to go to a hotel and leave B with him for a night just to get some rest!!

wish me luck and send your sleep technique advise my way please!

i made baby food!

hello lovely people.

i want to thank my 3 followers for wanting to keep track of my life and my postings. okay, one follower is my husband- but i didn't tell him he had to follow my blogging- he chose to all on his own. good choice M! ;)

today has been a good day! i finally made homemade baby food! i bought organic pink lady apples, for my pink pumpkin (mark's nickname for babygirl brooklyn) and some bananas. recipes for homemade baby food seem easy enough- but still daunting for some reason.. so it took me a couple days to get up the nerve to give it a shot. i used www.wholesomebabyfood.com  to make sure i was doing things right.

homemade applesauce:
wash & peel, then cut organic apples into slices or chunks. put into saucepan or pot and add enough water to just cover the apples. boil gently until apples are soft. *save the water for boiling apples* put apples into food processor or blender and process. add water from boiling to get mixture to a thin consistency. OR you can add breast milk to do the same job. cool the sauce before feeding baby! you can serve it warmed, but remember you just boiled it- so test it before giving it to baby.

YAY! you're done!! easy, right?
<-- here's a pic of my food processor... small but worked well for my small portions. filled 2 jars of bananas and a jar and an ice tray of applesauce...

i put one serving into a baby food jar that i saved from some of babygirl's organic veggies made by earth's best. the rest i froze. you can freeze the batch in ice cube trays- i used pink heart shaped ice trays i bought from Target's dollar aisle!

i also made homemade banana's for babygirl, which was even easier than the applesauce! because you don't cook the bananas at all....

bananas for baby:
cut bananas into slices or chunks. add to blender or food processor. blend until mush. and you're DONE! add water or breast milk to thin out. add cereal or yogurt to thicken up.

when saving bananas or apples, or any other fruit that turns brown with exposure to air- add a small amount of lemon juice (absorbic acid) to the mixture before storing.

i read up on the difference between absorbic & citric acid. seems that there is not much difference at all. absorbic acid seems to be more naturally occurring, where citric acid is often created instead of taken from nature. either one is fine and safe for babies, in small amounts. "they" say to wait on giving your young babies citrus fruits before age 1 because it may cause rash & digestive upset due to acidity. but that doesn't count for a dash or two of it to keep the fruit from turning brown.

alright- that's all the blogging i have time for today... i talked mark into watching babygirl for a couple hours so i could get this written and so i could work on some new jewelry pieces too!

i'm currently working on rachel's wedding jewelry- for her and the bridemaids, earrings for sims, and some new pieces for a home jewelry party jaq is hosting for P&Q at the end of the month. more about that later...

enjoy your weekend!!

Rachel's Green Bridal Shower

Hello. sorry i've been gone so long. it feels like ages since i've written on here. i've been a busy girl. i was 50% responsible for throwing my friend Rachel's Bridal Shower this past Valentine's Day. and had a couple of of hurdles to overcome.

For starters- the party was in Columbus, Ohio ( i live in Nashville, TN.) also, the best, and often the only way i could communicate with the other 50% of hostess (Stacey) was through emails. emailing can be tough because you have no verbal reference to how the words would be said by the author. sometimes you read it with inflections that don't really exist. sentences can get missed when reading quickly which can lead to confusion and frustration. once we spoke once on the phone- all those feelings where cleared up and happiness once again ruled the land.

secondly- i have a 5 month old!! the week before i took the drive to Ohio, she decided to wake up EVERY HOUR through the night, for FOUR NIGHTS in a row!!! How How How could i plan out a 4 day trip, pack for myself, my babygirl and for the shower on NO solid sleep?!?

well, thank goodness i figured it out- i only forgot a couple of things, but nothing too dire or that couldn't be purchased at Target!

Rachel recently became a vegetarian so we decided on a Go Green theme for her bridal shower (oh yeah- and her main color for the wedding is lime green.) an all vegetarian menu was easy for a 2pm-4pm sunday afternoon shower. organic veggie plate served with hummus. garlic eggplant dip served with breads and crackers. organic fruit served with natural cheeses.  all served on recycled paper plates, of course.

for decorations we kept it simple to not waste earth's resources. stacey (my partner in crime of hosting) bought teacups and mugs for the thrift store and potted small house plants in them. perfect for decoration and sweet as thank you gifts to all of our attendees.

we wanted fun games, and nothing too cheesey- so one of the games was "guess this herb." okay, so i forgot a couple herbs, so it became "guess this spice." HA! no one did very well at it, but it was fun and got people talking. one of the funny ones was celery flakes- found in stacy's cabinet- people were guessing everything on this one, from oregano to vanilla. very funny!

for game winners we gave reusable bags, grow your own herb kits and recycled paper notebooks. good for mother earth and fun truly usable stuff. i wanted some of those bags for myself but we had some ties between winners so i was left with nothing!! oh well, at least i know where they came from if i wanna buy them for myself..

so... that's some of where i've been. busy busy busy. i'm happy to announce that babygirl is sleeping much more again! only waking a couple times a night again. whew! she's working on popping out a tooth- so we'll see how long this sleep thing lasts. haha! she's sleeping now, which is how i've had time to actually sit down and think. and write. but i'm pretty much spent. so, see you next time. and thanks for reading.

III

how is it that i have so much to say, so many things i could talk about in my life and my mind is a total blank? oh right- Mommy Brain!! having a baby changes your life in so many ways! some you can see coming, some just slap you in the back of the head without a word of warning. lovelovelove my life though, even on the cranky, Brooklyn won't nap, Leia won't stop barking days.

i wrote out half a blog yesterday- Brooklyn wouldn't nap so i never got to finish it- so this morning, that was the first item on my list.
1. Finish Blog
2. Feed child
3. Feed self, and coffee! lots of coffee!

so i did finish it. maybe not exactly picking up where i left off- but i thought i closed it out rather well. kinda cutesy. i think it ended with something like- " so go have babies people!!"  it was funny, really! i guess you had to read it in context. oh, but you'll never be able to bc blogger lost it!! as i finished i hit Publish Post and the screen went blank and said some nonsense about not being able to find that page. ARG!

and now, babygirl is waking up and i'm going to have round this one up quickly or it may suffer the same fate! so, in closing...
